A Deadbolt Is Only as Strong as What It Locks Into
A knob lock alone is easy to force. A deadbolt throws a solid steel bolt into the door frame, and it's the single most important lock on an exterior door. But many deadbolts are held by short screws in soft trim wood. One good kick splits the frame, no matter how good the lock is.

Single or Double Cylinder?
A single-cylinder deadbolt has a thumb-turn inside. Double-cylinder models need a key on both sides, which is useful next to glass. They can slow an exit in a fire, though, so check local codes and think about who lives in the house. We'll walk you through the tradeoff.
